Healthy Neighborhood (HNP)

What are neighbors organizing?

  • CATCH Camp: A summer children camp right in the heart of McLaughlin Neighborhood at the Park.
  • Block Parties and neighborhood events:
  • Street-scape projects
  • Community Gardens
  • Annual Christmas Store

What have neighbors accomplished?

  • We saved McLaughlin Elementary School in 2010
  • We are developing new leaders in our neighborhood!
  • We are facilitating a series of conversations called “Conversations for Change” with police and the community to improve relations.

HNP is a collaborative neighborhood organizing project of 5 key partners in McLaughlin Neighborhood: Agape Christian Fellowship, Bethany Church, New Life Christian Center, Community enCompass, and McLaughlin Neighborhood Association.  Based on the philosophy of Asset Based Community Development (ABCD), HNP is an effort to organize neighbors around common gifts and areas of interest/concern.  HNP puts power and control back into the hands of neighbors, so that their vision for change becomes the agenda for change and so that their gifts are the primary tool for this change.
